The first thing I felt was pain. A dull, pounding pain that spread from the side of my head down to my shoulders, as if I had been hit by a truck. My body was sore, stiff, and heavy. And for a moment, I thought I was in a dream—swimming in a cozy, endless darkness.
But the faint beeping sound pulled me back to reality. My fingers twitched, brushing against soft sheets, and I realized I was lying on a bed. A hospital bed.
Slowly, I turned to my side, trying to dull the pain in my ribs, it wasn't broken though. I finally opened my eyes and a the bright light of the room almost blinded me again, forcing me to squint. It felt like I had been asleep for days, my body drained of all strength.
