“Are you sure?” Maria questioned the teenager for the sixth time, delaying the process anew.
Alice inhaled deeply through her nose and then let out a soft “Yeah”
“There’s no going back after this,” her boyfriend’s sister insisted.
“I know,” was Alice’s confident retort.
Do you? A snarky voice asked her in the back of her mind, and she tried to dismiss it the best she could.
“Well, here goes,” Blake said as he approached her, and she had to repress the urge to draw back.
He stood at a reasonable distance of four feet, and then his eyes locked with hers, he said in a voice that was neither cold nor commanding, “You were almost kidnapped. Harry was brave enough to save you. You don’t trust easily but that doesn’t mean you fear anyone.”
