Nicole
Cold air rushed over my face and body as we made our way out of the theatre halls. I shivered at the contact but kept my hand fixed in Adrian's as he led us through to the basement parking lot, firing shots in different directions, before finding us a safe spot behind one of the pillars of the basement. If I thought I hated the violence portrayed in Denis's PUBG games, it was because I had never really been at the center of a gunfight between two men whose one goal was to see the other dead.
"She should make a run for it," one of Adrian's men whispered harshly from the nearest pillar before firing countless bullets towards Ricco and his men who also barricaded behind a truck down the basement parking lot.
The loud gunshots stopped for a second and Adrian used the chance to take a peek, firing a few shots in their direction before pulling back to the residence of the wall. "Are you f*****g crazy?" he panted, "she'll be hit before she makes even two steps out. Let's move," grabbing my hand, Adrian led us forward to the next pillar, while his men covered him, firing shots endlessly at Ricco's men.
Fear cracked up my spine as more bullets rained heavily back and forth between Adrain's and Ricco's men. My hands trembled and my breath came out in quiet sobs. All I could think of what how my parents would cope with the news if I died.
"I cannot concentrate with you crying Nicole," he growled and turned to one of the men still firing at Ricco's men, "pass me a reload," he shouted.
"I'm scared Adrian," I whispered, holding my hands around my head in fear of being hit by one of the many bullets whizzing around from left to right.
"There's no need to be," Adrian said in harsh pants, and took a brief second to meet my eyes, his face was harsh and his eyes were fiery but missed the lust that always dripped from them when he looked at me, "I will not let anything happen to you," The man slid a narrow box perfectly to Adrian and I watched as he retrieved the contents of the box and reloaded his gun.
"Give me the girl man," a booming voice yelled from the rival side, "let's end this nicely."
His words seemed to enrage Adrian further as raised his head taking a look for a second, before firing multiple shots aimed at them. "f**k you ass," he shouted, firing more bullets haphazardly and taking my arm to move to the next pillar. I closed my eyes, hands trembling as the shooting spree continued for what felt like minutes until there was a weird calmness.
"How far is Silas?" Adrian spoke to another man behind a pillar reloading his weapon.
"He's ready with the car, all we have to do is get there," the man answered and it took me a few seconds to realize that he had blood dripping heavily from his arm.
I managed to stifle a gasp with my trembling hand, knowing full well what would follow after the sight of so much blood, "he's bleeding Adrian," I said through heavy breaths.
Adrian's head snapped to the man, and his face easily morphed into concern and worry, "you okay Edward?"
"I've been hit in worse places," he said nonchalantly like he did not have a freaking bullet pierced through his body, "let's just get the hell out of here first." he moved to the side of the pillar, and fired a few shots, successfully hitting one of the men on the other side. "That's the fourth man down, three more to go and this will be over,"
"Can you get Silas to bring the car closer? she has to leave now."
"I'm not leaving you," I blurted. I could already feel the taste of vomit at the back of my throat and wondered why I was still conscious after seeing so much blood.
"I was not giving you an option," he said, firing bullets without looking at me.
The man whose name I had just realized was Edward, tapped a device connected to his ear and said a few harsh words in Italian. "Silas has one man down, but one of our men is down too," Edward said in English to Adrian.
"Dead?" Adrian asked in a grunt.
"Badly wounded, we need to get to the surgeon," he answered, kneeling to get a clear shot, before sending back a few bullets directed at Ricco's men.
I jerked up in surprise, barely holding back a scream as a stray bullet from all the shots fired towards us fell right next to my shaking legs. "I'm never going on a date again," I sobbed, kicking it away.
"We'll see about that," Adrian chuckled. He actually f*****g chuckled. "This is taking damn longer than I want it to," he shouted at one of his men, I was too shaken to know which. "Which car are they hiding behind?"
"The red truck, the tires are high enough to shield them." one man answered.
"Edward, get Silas to bring the car around," he ordered as his eyes narrowed, roaming around.
"That's going to be difficult," Edward said in concern and all it took was an ice-breaking glare from Adrian to have the man on the phone with Silas. This time he spoke in English. "Bring the car around," he said sharply, into the device connected to his ear.
"Take this," Adrian said pushing one of his guns in my hand.
"What's this for?" I asked as the gun dropped from my hands that shook violently.
"When Silas comes around in the car, I'll get in and I want you to stay back here, you need that." he shifted his arm, to get the right angle to the two men hiding behind a red truck.
"You're joking,"
"It's either that or come with me in the car, I have to get closer to take those two out," he pointed to the two men, who took their hiding spots behind each back tire of the parked pickup truck.
"Great," I said pushing the gun back to him quickly, "I am coming with you."
The screeching tires of an SUV approaching caught my attention and I looked ahead to see Silas speeding towards us with the doors of the car open. Without waiting for Adrian to stop me, I got to my feet, ducking low, and climbed in through the open car doors the moment Silas stopped the car.
Adrian gave an annoyed huff, before giving Edward and the other man orders to cover him and climbing in into the car next to me.
"What's the plan?" Silas asked as the car roared wildly, speeding towards the exit of the basement before Adrian even got the chance to close the doors. One other man sat next to Silas in front holding a gun too, with blood gushing down his arm. Just like Edward, he did not look in the least bothered by his bleeding state, I though felt my stomach churning, both in fear and disgust. My eyes were already heavy, but I managed to put up a fight to stay conscious.
"Get me closer to them," Adrian reached lower for something beneath Silas's seat from where he sat behind and pulled out a disassembled gun that was much larger and a ton scarier than the gun he had before. "At least five feet."
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Silas said, still finding the strength to chuckle. What the f**k was wrong with them.
"Maybe," Adrian shrugged, corking the gun after expertly arranging it in seconds. "Martin's wounded," Adrian tipped his head up to the man seating in the front seat, "did you call Anderson?"
"I did, he can still fire," Silas answered, "but your mother would kill me if she finds out I let you die from a gunfight with Ricco."
"Then see you soon in hell brother," he shot him a charming smile and readjusted so he was aiming at the window with one knee on the seat and the other on the car floor.
"What the hell Adrian?" I asked, giving him an icy glare.
"We're just kidding."
"I feel like I'm having a panic attack from all the bullets flying around and you are organizing a comedy show here?" I cried, "you do not get to joke around like that."
He frowned as his blue eyes narrowed on my tears that flowed like a broken tap, "I am not taking you on a gunfight with me ever again," the moment he said the words a few bullets whizzed through the air from a car I had not noticed was now following us from behind.
Adrian ducked over me, sheltering me from the shattered pieces of the rear glass, "If I remember correctly, I only wanted to go out on a date with my husband," I shot back from where I was now crumbled between the seats. "I was not exactly begging to be in between a gun war."
"It's a perk," he flashed me a sly grin, before turning his aim to the open window and firing endless shots at the car. "Change of plan," he yelled loud enough for Silas to hear, "turn around,"
Without a word, Silas followed, turning the car around swiftly and resuming his speed as he headed back in the direction we just came. The other man held his weapon over the window as he made aim for the red pickup truck approaching us with two men inside. One of them manned the truck, while the other fired bullets towards our car.
I closed my eyes clutching my head below the seats as the next few moments passed in deafening gunfire. My hands trembled and I thought I was in a living nightmare until it all ended a minute later. I raised my head, just as the car came to an abrupt halt, and when I looked behind me, the red car had halted too a few feet ahead.
The windows on each car were decorated with bullet marks all over, but the red truck looked in worse shape. Adrian waited for a few seconds, his cold eyes trained calculatingly on the truck, before he jumped out, holding his gun firmly in his hand. Silas took out his gun too and climbed out with Martin.
"We'll make sure they're dead," he said, hands wrapped around the door handle, "you stay right here."
I wanted to protest, but after the events of what felt like hours, I did not have it in me also if I had to see one more person bleeding I might just go into a coma. "Okay," I mumbled and moved to the front seat to get a better view as they marched to the red car.
I was still completely horrified, but I could hear their conversation from where I sat. The two men were still alive, but they had probably been hit too bad to even move because Adrian easily opened the door and dragged them out to the ground.
"Where's the fucker?" Adrian asked through gritted teeth.
"I don't know..."
Before the words were out of his mouth, Adrian unloaded two bullets into one of them, successfully ending his life. "You will be suffering the same fate if you think for a second I'm joking here, Where is Ricco?"
"He left," the now frightened man explained, "he snuck out before you could get to him."
"Always a coward," Silas growled, looking away. And just when I thought the shooting would be enough for one day, Adrian finished every last bullet that remained in his gun on the man.
"Such a bastard," he roared raking his hand through his hair. "Where are the others?"
With my eyes focused straight ahead, I did not notice the man sneaking up being me through the back door of the car, until he had his hand wrapped around my mouth, stifling my scream. "Come out slowly," the cold voice growled in my ear, and I obliged, feeling more terrified than I had felt in the last few minutes. Adrian and the other men still had their attention focused on how to go with Ricco, so they did not notice as the man slipped me out of the car, one hand closed over my nose and my mouth, while the other held a gun to my head.
I could not breathe, which meant I could not fight, I could only move the way he wanted me to.
The man pulled me back slowly, mumbling how he would pass the bullet through my head if I tried to yell. Not like I could, I could not f*****g breathe. Tears blurred my vision with every step I took away from them, and my fear pitched higher as I silently willed Adrian to look my way for just a second.
Just when I thought the mysterious man would take me away without anyone's knowledge, my phone vibrated in my back pocket. It was probably Denis because if we were still back in the theatre the movie was supposed to be ending now. I could not have been more grateful for my best friend.
The distraction was enough to catch the man off gaurd and draw Adrian's attention to us. Taking the chance, I bit through the hand around my mouth with so much force my teeth hurt and I felt the metallic taste of blood. He screamed in pain just as Adrian raced towards us, gun in hand and vengeful eyes narrowed at the man. I managed to extricate myself from his grip, only to be caught by the hair and flung back into his sturdy iron-like body with enough force to make me shriek.
"Let go of her right now!" Adrian barked, as he rounded us. Silas and two other of Adrian's men were on their gaurd too, guns in hand and eyes trained on the man, but none of them came close as the man held the nuzzle of his gun to my throat. His hand pulled violently at my hair, it felt like my scalp would peel off any moment.
"You're hurting me!" I screamed trying to hold his hand from pulling so hard. "stop!"
"You little slut, I told you to stay quiet," he growled, yanking my hand away and increasing his hold.
"f**k I'll kill you with my very hands if you don't let her go right now," Adrian yelled, stalking closer slowly.
"The boss's orders are to bring her, dead or alive, you can choose to make the process quicker by moving closer," he held the gun closer forcing my mouth open and shoving it down my throat. "Try me."
"Do you really think you would walk out of here a living man after killing her?" Silas grunted, slowly turning on him. There were four of them including Adrian but neither of them made a move at him because he still had me.
"Give me the girl," Adrian said with deadly calmness, "you're alone right now. You give her back to me and I will consider letting you walk free."
"You can't do a thing as long as I have her," he chuckled, "move to the side and let me through. You can talk to the boss about having her back."
The familiar sound of a gun fired tore through the air and for a split second, my blood ran cold as thoughts of whether the shot was fired through my mouth, crashed through me. But as the grip on my hair loosened slowly I realized it was not me but the maniacal man who had been shot. The man behind me fell to the ground with a grunt, pulling the gun out of my mouth and clutching his bleeding arm.
Without wasting a second, Adrian was on me, holding me up from falling as he cradled me in his arms. "Are you okay?"
"No," I sobbed, it felt like the world around me was spinning out of control and my head pounded like I had been hit with a sledgehammer. "I just want to go home," I cried. holding on to Adrian.
I looked forward and saw Edward, realizing that the shot had been fired from where he stood behind us. "He's not dead yet," he said gesturing to the man who had my life in his hands minutes ago. "Do I finish him off?"
"I'll help you with that," the man growled, swiftly getting to his feet, and taking the gun hoisted behind him, "The boss would kill me anyway if I do not have her dead,"
Without giving any of us a chance to react, he raised his hands and three resounding shots sliced through the air.
The next five seconds passed in a haze. All I could think of was being held in Adrian's grip for a moment, thinking I was going to die from the bullets fired at me the next, and then being tucked underneath Adrian's protective body.
The man fell to the ground, and this time he was not lucky enough to escape the cold bullets from Silas's gun. "f*****g asshole,"
A chilly silence stretched over the next few seconds. My eyes darted around quickly, all the men were standing still, except Adrian. His body was still ducked over mine, like a wall ready to shield me from the bullets that would have been fired if Silas had not shot first.
But as I felt the warmth and moistness of heavy fluid on my hands I realized that Silas might have shot a second too late. I closed my eyes, trying to move my body away from Adrian's firm grip as I steeled myself for the impact of being shot.
Except, it was not coming.
There was no pain, just blood.
I looked down between me and Adrian and gasped at the new awareness. There was no pain because it was not my blood.
It was his.
The pool puddled between us, and I watched in horror as it dripped down to the ground. The sound of his growl was all I needed to force me back into the moment.
He had been shot, and if he was shot at the spot my hand was now closed over, I was f****d, we were f****d. Raising my head, I met his eyes, unable to hold the tears that rushed down my cheeks.
"You're bleeding."
