When Iris' text arrived, Sebastian was in the middle of a glare down with his Beta about his recent schedule.
The faint vibration of the rarely used device almost went unnoticed amidst the sparks blowing off between them. The lit up screen caught both of them by surprise.
"Since when did you start using your phone?" His Beta, Elijah, raised a doubtful eyebrow. "And who has the guts to contact you? Was your number leaked? Should I apply for a change?"
Sebastian ignored his nagging and reached for his phone. Seeing Iris' name on the screen erased every last bit of frustration from his being like a wave washing over the wet shore.
However, the calm lasted for no more than three seconds. He read the text once, then twice, as if the words on the small screen didn't make sense to him.
