I watch Kael at his desk, going over the same supply reports he's read three times already. The lines around his eyes look deeper than they did yesterday. He hasn't slept properly in days.
"You should rest," I say from where I'm sitting by the window.
"I will. After I finish these."
"You said that two hours ago."
I stand and walk over to him, one hand on my belly. The baby has been active today, kicking more than usual. "The reports will still be there after you sleep."
"Aria."
"Kael."
He finally puts down the papers and pulls me onto his lap. His arms wrap around me, careful not to press against my stomach. "I'm sorry. I know I've been distant."
"You're not distant. You're exhausted. There's a difference."
"The pack needs me focused."
