Rosé had gone to bed earlier than usual. From her bedroom window, she could see the dim glow of Alessandro’s office light still burning. His shadow moved across the blinds, pacing slowly. Voices low and tense, floated through the crack beneath the door. He was busy again. With business. With danger. She didn’t know if she was supposed to feel comforted by the silence or terrified by it. Wrapping herself in the soft sheets, she curled on her side.
