Chapter Four

1167 Words
Third Person Alpha Scott growled, his wolf pacing in his mind. What the hell is she doing? He thought, watching as she walked away from him. “What the hell just happened?” Ryan exhaled, gazing at his friend as she stormed away. She was the alpha’s mate. How is that possible? Is that why she was dressed up? She believed she would be crowned his Luna tonight. Not this other woman. Ryan was caught off guard when Scott shoved him. “Stay the f**k away from her,” the alpha demanded, fury rolling off him in waves. “Alpha, Madison and I are friends,” he defended, before being punched in the face. Ryan groaned. “What the f**k, Alpha!” He stumbled back from the blow. “Stay the f**k away from her!” Alpha Scott roared, releasing his aura. Ryan dropped to his knees, bearing his neck to his alpha. He gritted his teeth in submission. He never expected this when he chased after his friend. Alpha Scott jammed a finger into his shoulder, causing Ryan to fall on his ass. He pointed an angry finger at Ryan’s stunned face. “Not a word of this to anyone,” the alpha commanded him. Ryan could do nothing but obey his alpha. “f**k!” Alpha Scott yelled before storming towards the pack house. He didn’t follow his fated mate or try to explain his actions. Ryan grumbled, scrubbing a hand down his face. “What the hell?” “Dude, where did you go?” Dean, Ryan’s friend, mind-linked him. “Did you find a hot piece to go home with?” He chuckled. “Yeah,” Ryan sighed, answering his friend. It was a lie. He could never go against his alpha, even though he lost all respect for him. How can anyone reject their fated mate like that? Maddy should be our Luna. “Good for you,” Dean exclaimed. “Is it Maddison? She was hot as f**k, tonight.” Ryan couldn’t argue that. Madison Frost was beautiful, even without the dress and makeup. “It’s not Madds,” he confessed, knowing the guys at training would tease him. They always did, when it came to her. They didn’t understand why he hung out with her. She was the only woman in the training program. “Yeah, right?” He mocked. “Have fun, you two.” Dean ended the mind-link. Ryan exhaled and stood up. He no longer felt like celebrating the alpha who hurt his childhood friend. He dusted himself off and followed her. He couldn’t interfere, but he had to ensure she was safe. Ryan couldn’t imagine the pain she was in. He followed her scent deeper into the forest. He hoped she would head home. Ryan didn’t know her state of mind and didn’t want her to hurt herself. The pain she was in must be unbearable. When he stumbled out of the tree line in front of Maddison’s house, Ryan sighed in relief. She was entering the house without noticing him. “Gamma Frost?” Ryan mind-linked her father. “Madison is home safe.” “Thank you, Ryan,” he said, ending the link. Feeling heartbroken for his friend, Ryan walked home. His wolf was whimpering in his head. “I know, buddy,” Ryan told him. “But we can’t go against the alpha.” Meanwhile, Alpha Scott returned to the party and his chosen mate. He lied, telling her Alpha brother that his wolf believed Raelyn was his mate. She wasn’t nineteen yet and would never find out the truth before he marked her. Alpha Scott’s father threatened that he would never be alpha if he claimed Madison Frost as his Luna. What else was he supposed to do? Scott has been training to be alpha his entire life. He was born to lead his pack and would never give up his right to the Cypress Ridge Pack. The moment of Madison rejecting him replayed in his mind. Why would she reject me? He thought. She may not be his Luna, but she is his mate. Regardless, she will stay by his side as his mistress. No other man will touch what was his. Scott almost ripped Ryan apart for being so close to her. Then he would have had a bigger mess to clean up, explaining to his father why he killed the future Delta. “Babe, where did you go?” Raelyn asked Scott as he approached their table. Her brother’s cold eyes bore into him. Scott didn’t know that the alpha was suspicious of his intentions with his baby sister. Scott smiled and kissed her head before retaking his seat beside her. “Business, baby girl,” he assured her. “Is there a problem?” Her brother demanded. Alpha Scott cleared his throat. “Nothing I couldn’t handle.” “Brother, stop,” Raelyn defended. “Scott takes good care of me.” She assured her brother. He was the only blood family she had left since their parents' deaths. “I see,” the alpha drew out, unconvinced. Sipping his whiskey, he observed Alpha Scott closely. He didn’t believe a word, but for the sake of his sister, he agreed to this bonding. She wasn’t nineteen yet and should be waiting until then to trust anyone with her heart. The Alpha of the Grimm Mountain Pack glanced around the table, noticing that the only one not joyous was Gamma Frost. He learned from Alpha Simon that the gamma had stepped down from most of his duties after the death of his mate. But he was still a renowned warrior and strategist. With the look on the gamma’s face, the alpha wondered what had happened between them. His sister would be staying with Alpha Scott, and he was unconvinced about his ability to protect Raelyn. If anything were to happen to her, it would mean war. Gamma Frost sat stewing in his fury. He glanced around the table, foolish enough to believe the Alpha and his family’s lies. Alpha Simon was his supposed friend. He supported him when he lost his mate and almost lost his daughter. But he now sees that it was all a lie. Alpha Simon only wanted power. His son threw away his daughter, his fated mate, to align with another pack. The gamma had to watch as his only daughter’s heart shattered. It was beyond cruel. You would have to be entirely heartless to put your only true mate through that. Tomorrow, Gamma Frost would resign and leave this pack forever, taking his daughter with him. This pack has taken enough from him, and he wouldn’t let his daughter suffer anymore under their rule. He’ll move her to a human city where she can start over and meet a man who is worthy of her love. But tonight, he would sit quietly and calmly, his eyes wide open to the lies of his alpha.
