_Lisa’s POV_ The howls were growing louder. My heart pounded as the forest seemed to close in around us. The ruins of Eldermoor stood silent and dark, but the air was alive with the sound of approaching beasts. I gripped my cloak tightly against me. My nails were digging into the fabric. Sierra whispered inside me. Something is wrong. These are not ordinary wolves. Be alert, Lisa. I swallowed hard. My chest felt tight. Then the first of them appeared. It lunged out of the tree line. It was a hulking shadow with twisted limbs and glowing red eyes. Its body was half wolf, half nightmare. Its maw stretched too wide, dripping with black sludge instead of saliva. I froze and my breath caught in my throat. I had never seen anything like it. “Oh, goddess,” I whispered while stumbling back.
