_Kael's POV_
The moon hung low in the sky. It was like a pale sentinel watching as we crept toward the Frostbane mansion. The forest was deathly quiet, as if it, too, held its breath. My boots barely made a sound on the damp forest floor. Jared and Alex flanked me. They were both tense and alert.
"You sure about this?" Jared asked in a whisper.
"I don't have a choice," I said. "She has been kidnapped by Fenric. Something of hers is here. And without it, we can’t find her."
Valric stirred inside me. It is foolish to sneak into a rival pack. You'll get us all killed.
"I would rather die trying than sit around while she is being tortured," I muttered under my breath.
