Chapter 4 Kick That Cheating Couple Out

943 Words
"How dare you!" Ava was furious. She had never had some random fling at a bar. That didn't match her 'elegant and refined' image at all. "You shameless homewreckers. Get out of Lucas's house right now!" Mia smirked. "Actually, that's my line." Oliver gestured toward the door. "Miss, please roll yourself out of here. Smoothly. Like a ball." Ava was livid. There was no way she was going to let them win! Stomping her foot in frustration, she let tears fall and ran into the house instead. "Lucas! Mia came back for you..." The place had three bedrooms and a study, but thanks to the designer's layout, the living room, lounge, and exercise area were all distinctly separated, and the soundproofing was top-notch. After a long moment, Lucas finally came out, looking annoyed. There was a large wet stain on the front of his shirt. He looked drained, exasperated. The first thing out of his mouth was, "Mia, stop making a scene. I just invited Ava over as a guest. Why are you always so hostile to her?" Mia rolled her eyes hard enough to see her own brain. She seriously couldn't understand how someone with a finance degree could be this dense. "Lucas, if your ears stopped working, I don't mind writing it down for you. We broke up. You're not the owner of this house either. Get out." "Don't be childish, Mia. As long as you apologize, we can go back to how things were..." Lucas was still clinging to his fantasy. He couldn't believe that the girl who used to follow him around like a lovesick puppy had really moved on just like that. Mia rubbed her forehead. She didn't want to look at Lucas's face for another second. Instead of wasting more breath, she made a quick call to building security and had them escort both him and Ava out of the house. "Gentlemen, from now on, if you ever see this man near the property, do not let him in." "Of course, Miss Brown. Don't worry. Our security is top-notch!" Ava panicked. Did Mia really think she was in charge here? This woman was delusional! She tried to stop them. "No, you're all mistaken! Lucas is the real owner!" The guards glanced at Mia, then at Lucas. They were getting annoyed. "This is Miss Brown's property. Please stop spreading nonsense." Ava raised her chin and scoffed. "That's impossible. Mia's just a broke assistant. She works for Lucas! How could she possibly afford a house this big?" Oliver raised his eyebrows at her in disbelief. "Wow. Who told you my Mia was broke? Look at the gift she just gave me." He lifted his wrist, showing off a gleaming watch worth a million dollars. Ava recognized it instantly. The same model was currently being advertised on the giant Times Square billboard. Her expression turned stiff. "No way..." But no one was paying attention to her anymore. The security guards moved in and ushered both Lucas and Ava out. Just before the door shut behind them, Lucas blurted out one last demand. "Mia! Give me the business proposal. I've got a meeting with Mr. Miller this afternoon!" "Mr. Miller?" Mia paused, tapped her chin with a finger, and smiled playfully. "Ah. Almost forgot about him..." In her previous life, she had sold off her family shares to help Lucas secure his position as heir to the Manesdin Group. Under the alias "James Miller," she had invested in Lucas's startup. The project had exploded in success, launching Lucas into business stardom and earning him the chairman's favor. Why didn't she just hand him the money directly? Because Lucas didn't want to be seen as a freeloader. He always thought Mia came from a middle-class family. He believed this house was a rental. In his mind, her best talent was being his assistant. As agreed, he was supposed to take that business plan to a meeting with "Mr. Miller" this afternoon. That was why he'd rushed over to find Mia. Mia crossed her arms and shot him a cold smile. "Lucas, I wrote that proposal myself. Every bit of it. It's my work. Why should I hand it over to you?" Lucas wiped the sweat off his face, looking flustered. "Just give me the plan and I'll... I'll consider breaking up with you!" "Deal." Mia gave a sly smile, as if a new revenge plan had just popped into her head. The door closed. Inside, Mia casually patted Oliver's chest like she was playing with a large Doberman. "Looks like your workload just went up, my angel investor. My esteemed... James Miller." "More work?" Oliver caught her hand just as she was about to pull it back. He grinned brightly. "That's going to cost extra." Ah, to be young. Even the way he asked for more money didn't feel annoying. "Fine. I'm too busy to go hunting for someone else. Name your price." "I want... a home-cooked meal. From you." Mia blinked. "You sure about that?" "Absolutely." What a stupid price—one that hurt them both. Mia's eyes sparkled with mischief. She rarely looked this playful, and no one had ever told her just how adorable she was when she made that face. She pulled her hand back and stood with her arms crossed, like a cat toying with a mouse. "Deal. But you have to finish every bite." Oliver snapped his fingers. "Deal!" Before he could celebrate too long, Mia's tone changed. Her smile vanished. "Now, let's talk about something else. Dear Oliver, I never told you my last name. So tell me… how did you know I'm Mia Brown?"
