A Whisper in the Silence

1349 Words

♥ Chloe ♥ The road stretched endlessly ahead of us. Just more pavement, more trees, more silence that screamed in my ears. Michael had been the perfect gentleman last night. I hated that he had gotten a room with only one bed, and I had been far too tired to worry about whatever he had planned. But he had surprised me when he had rolled over and gone straight to sleep. I had considered making a run for it, but I had noticed the gun he had tucked under his pillow. I barely slept, and I was feeling it. Not only that, but my hope was bleeding out mile by mile. Michael hadn’t hit me again since the motel. He didn’t need to. The slap had done its job, and the sight of the gun had been enough to keep me quiet. I wasn’t in control. Not at all. Michael still talked to me like everything was fine.
