Something was wrong. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but Chloe had been off since yesterday morning. Distant and quiet in a way that wasn’t just exhaustion or stress. She was going through the motions. Smiling, answering questions, helping with the client's budget, but her eyes weren’t there. Like she was somewhere else entirely. Somewhere far.
