Shot

"Vanessa." Elizabeth yelled out. The bullet grazed Vanessa's side. "Ouch?" Vanessa asked, gesturing with her hands. "I will shoot you this time." Laura said in determination, though one can say she is scared. Vanessa groaned in anger. "I can trying to help you." She said trying to be as polite as possible. Laura pulled the trigger again. Vanessa dodged the bullet and hid behind the study table, at the corner of the room. Vanessa winced in pain when her clothes rubbed the wound. "Who are you." Laura asked. "You shoot me first then ask who I am." Vanessa asked mocking. "I have a gun." Laura threatened Vanessa. "And I have a dagger." Vanessa counter attacked. "I can shoot you." "Sure let's see if my dagger is faster or your gun." Vanessa said sassily. "Do you even know how to use that thing in the first place. God damn." Vanessa said clutching her wound. She concluded she's gonna need a few stitches. All because she wanted to protect this crazy lady. "Vanessa, do not provoke her further." Elizabeth said through gritted teeth in warning. "My husband is a mafia Don." Laura said, narrowing her eyelids. Though her husband and her are in a huge fight, and he might have hired this assassin to kill her, she didn't have to say that. Some things are better left unsaid. "And I'm not yet married." Vanessa said sassily. "Vanessa." Elizabeth hissed at her. Vanessa but her lower lip in pain, sliding her top of the wound and wrapped her button up leather jacket around it, to slow down the bleeding. She fixed her top over her jacket. "Alright listen up, this is what we are gonna do. You listen to me, your child lives. You try to kill me, I will leave and give the deal to someone who WILL kill you and the thing in you." Vanessa said, giving her an ultimatum, before losing the last bit of patience in her. Laura hesitated when she heard the youngster's voice. She didn't trust her, but she can't afford to get killed. Not when she had another life in her, that depended on her. "Alright." She said as she realized the young lady didn't try to hurt her even when she had shot her. Soo she can....trust her, can't she? "So what is it." Vanessa asked sensing Laura's hesitation. "I will trust you." Laura said, unsure. She didn't want to trust her, but she didn't have another option either. "Alright." Vanessa said before whispered to Elizabeth. "What should I do now." "Ask her to pass her gun to you." Elizabeth said without thinking twice. The reasoning is quite simple Laura tried to kill Vanessa with the gun and she'd prefer her friend over the lady any time of the day, pregnant or not. Her friend comes first. "I can't." Vanessa refused flatly. "She is pregnant and she thinks I'm here to kill her. She's vulnerable, let the gun be her protection." Vanessa explained. They are friends. Friends lookout for each other. But she didn't want her to lookout for her safety, not now atleast. "I'm gonna come out and your NOT gonna shoot me. Can you do that." Vanessa asked her emphasizing on the negative. Though she is not gonna listen to Elizabeth, she can atleast ease her tension. "Yes." Vanessa showed herself from her hiding place and showed her self to Laura again. Laura scanned her from head to toe. The girl looked to be around 15, skinny and pale, probably from the loss of blood. "Her next destination." Vanessa asked Elizabeth. "Australia." Elizabeth said after a few seconds. Fast typing could be heard through the ear piece. "Do you know anyone from Australia." Vanessa voice started the woman out of her observation. "No." Laura shook her head. "Good." Vanessa said. Laura wondered how that was supposed to be good. "Any spare accounts that no one is aware of or any cash on you." Vanessa investigated. She can only help her so much. She needs to start anew from here. The less the people knew her the harder it will be to track. Now, no one will track her down since she knows no one from there. Well unless she confessed to another person and he turns out to be a snitch. "I have extra cash. But no spare accounts." Laura said chewing her lips, thinking of the future. "Is makeup healthy for the baby." Vanessa asked with a thinking face on. Laura seemed taken aback by the question and Elizabeth facepalmed herself. "The baby is inside her not on her skin." Elizabeth said sarcastically like she was talking to a moron. "Well, do you have any makeup." Vanessa asked Laura looking around the room for said item, not bothering herself with Elizabeth's sarcasm. "In my room." Laura said and pointed towards the door. "What are you up to." Elizabeth asked suspiciously. "To play dress up." Vanessa said with a mischievous smirk. AFTER A FEW MINUTES "Oh my god." Laura squealed looking at her face. Amazed by what she saw. Vanessa took a photo of her and sent it to Elizabeth. 'This she look the exact way she looks in the fake passport.' She typed and sent. 'Yes.' Vanessa got a quick reply. "Well we need to get going now." Vanessa informed Laura, who was still busy admiring herself. Laura straightened her back and nodded stiffly. "Elizabeth how much time do we have." Vanessa asked pressing on her ear piece walking down the steps, carrying Laura's suitcase. "Probably enough time of she gets there in an hour." "We don't have much time." Vanessa informed Laura. "There are a couple cameras around me." Vanessa said glancing around the street as soon as she opened the door. "Down." Came another short reply. "Does it contain everything you need or will be needing." Vanessa asked Laura nodding at the suitcase. "Yes." Laura said hesitantly. "What's wrong." Vanessa asked, frowning. "I'm destitute. I don't have enough money for literally anything now." Laura threw her arms in the arm exasperated and soon hugged herself. Her panic could be heard through her voice. "I figured. I was planning on giving you some money anyways." Vanessa shrugged nonchalantly. Laura scoffed feeling being ridiculed. "How old are you even. 16." She asked harshly. Probably hating the fact she literally has to depend on a stranger. Who's name she doesn't even know! "Soon to be 15 actually. But how does that even matter." Vanessa asked tilting her head, confused. Vanessa can say the lady is somewhat angry, but she couldn't put her hands on what exactly she was angry about. "I don't need money from a stranger." Laura said angrily. "Well I don't have a habit of giving money out to strangers either. I'm paying for......what I'm gonna do to this house after you leave." Vanessa said. She can't change the stranger part but she sure as hell can make it seem like she's not giving it for free. "What are you gonna do to the house." Laura asked suspiciously, keeping a protective hand on her round belly. Vanessa bit back a smirk and shook her head. From a nearby distance they heard a horn. "The cab is here." Vanessa said. The cab pulled up in front of them. "Remeber don't tell anyone your real name or anything about you, your bank card will reach you when you get to Australia along with all the necessary documents you will need. With your new name that is." Vanessa informed her. "Thank you." Laura said with a grateful smile. She meant it with all her heart when she said those two words. "Just don't come back." Vanessa said. "I'm sorry." Laura said looking at Vanessa's abdomen. Vanessa followed her eyes and and made an 'oh' sound as soon as she realized what she was talking about. "Don't mind it." Vanessa said making a hand gesture. She'd forgotten she even got shot if not for her. She shut the car door after Laura went inside. They weren't close enough to bid farewell and she is not gonna pretend to be either. 'You are too kind to kill an actual human no matter how much you think you like to do it. Don't convince yourself otherwise and leave. Don't be a burden.' Candy's voice popped in her head out of nowhere. "Get out of my head." Vanessa screamed clutching her head. Vanessa took in deep breaths. Good thing she hung up on Elizabeth after Laura left. It would've been embarrassing if she were to witness this side of her.
