MARSHALL My mind went blank like someone hit a kill switch. I met her eyes; cold and uncertain. She dragged said eyes to the floor. "This whole... This whole thing was supposed to be fake. I think it's best we keep it that way." I searched myself for a reaction. It was too much to give. So, I decided to show nothing despite the itch on my skin. "Okay." I took a step back. "If that's what you want." She lifted her eyes to mine again. There was a little bit of surprise and hurt in them. But three seconds later they were gone, replaced by a cold finality. "Okay then." I didn't think she meant to whisper the words; they just came out too weak. ****† SOLAYNE 'I think we need to stop having sex.' That was the right thing to say. I'd never been more certain of anything in my life.
