I woke up with a searing headache. I opened my eyes and saw that I am already in my room. I don’t have any recollection of how I was able to go home. The last thing I know, I am having fun with Xavion by the terrace. We were talking about the guy who was thrown in the pool by some jocks.
I sat up and leaned on the headboard while massaging my temples. So, is this what a hangover is?
A series of knocks came to my door. “Honey?” It was Mom. She sounded so worried about me. Well, probably because this is the first time that I was so drunk I don’t even remember anything.
“Come in, Mom,” I mumbled in a hoarse voice.
The door slowly flung open and there I saw Mom looking so worried about me while holding a tray of food. She entered the room and slowly placed the tray down on my bed.
She looked at me and sighed. She climbed on top of my bed and sat beside me. “I don’t know if I am going to be happy or what,” she began. I already have a feeling that I would hear an earful from her and I am prepared for that. “I am actually delighted that you have finally tasted alcohol. I was so scared that you would be the same boring woman I was before.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. “You? Boring?” I almost scoffed but my head ached. “You met Dad in the club, Mom. I don’t think you actually lived a boring life.”
She smirked. “I only met him there because my parents were about to fix me to marrying someone I don’t know,” she replied.
“Which is my father…”
I smiled because I really think that their love story is the best thing that has ever happened in the history of the world. I could not imagine how they would have ended up if Mom didn’t go there that night. Dad would not have met her that way and we wouldn’t have been here. I wouldn’t even have been.
Mom chuckled and shook her head. “Well, it must have been destiny, you know?” she uttered. “But that is not what I am here for, Anjelina.” She gave me a look, now serious. “While I am happy that you are finally getting your life out there, I don’t want you to abuse your ignorance on stuff like that and get too drunk to even remember what you were doing or who drove you here.”
My eyes widened as that never really occurred to me. “Who…” I couldn’t even ask him because I am scared that it’s not Synne. Dad would kill me if it’s a man.
Mom gave me a look. “It’s Synne. Who else would it be?” she asked me and I could only heave a sigh of relief. I am so stupid! I shouldn’t have had a drink with that man! Now, I feel like my head is being torn apart.
Mom shook her head before nodding at the food on the tray. “You go on and eat before taking those meds you need for your hangover,” she ordered. “Sleep the day off and come and join me and your father tonight for dinner, okay?” she caressed my hair.
I smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Mom,” I told her.
“And perhaps, please take a bath. You smell like Corona.”
I rolled my eyes and sighed. “I know, Mom. I drowned myself in Corona for the whole night. This is crazy how it felt nice to have that drink go down my throat. It’s different, Mom.”
She chuckled and nodded. “I know, dear. So, please do not intoxicate too much.”
I chuckled weakly. “I know that now, Mom. You don’t need to remind me anymore.”
She grinned. “Now, go and eat. I didn’t tell your father about this so don’t worry about it. Your secret is safe with me.”
I bit my lip, feeling a little guilty before

“Oh, my god, Anjelina! You were so drunk!”
Those were the words that Synne told me when she saw me the next Monday at school. She was smiling at me sheepishly and meaningfully.
“Are you okay?” she asked me. “I bet you had a bad hangover…” She smirked. “Did your Mom scold you?”
I pursed my lips and huffed as I plopped on the bench facing a vast football field. “Mom did not scold me,” I replied. “I scolded myself more for not being in control of my alcohol intake…”
Synne raised her brow. “That’s new,” she stated. “But then, why didn’t you tell me that you are close to Xavion Zachory?” Her voice sounded betrayed but it also sounded like she’s so excited to know the tea. That’s how she really is. That’s why I think it was best for her to become a lawyer. She needed to know everything about everything.
I gave her a look. “We’re not that close. Not what you think it is,” I deadpanned. “And please, don’t act like I am going to be his—”
“—girlfriend?” she finished by cutting me off.
I rolled my eyes. “Friend,” I corrected. “I won’t even dare to think we would be more than that. It’s just…” gross! “…not right.”
Synne smirked. “What is not right? I mean, he’s scary, yes, but it’s not like he doesn’t have a heart. What if he really is the one for you?”
My jaw dropped. “What? No!” I fervidly denied. “That is not even in my dreams!”
Just the thought of me being in a relationship with him just sends shivers down my spine. I wouldn’t want any of that. I want a quiet life. Besides, he’s not even my type!
Synne shook her head. “You know, I don’t know. You must have been so drunk that you weren’t able to see how he looked at you when he told us that you’re drunk.”
I furrowed my brows. “What do you mean?”
Synne smiled before standing up. “That’s for you to find out, dear,” she smirked. “By the way, I better go now. I have a class in ten minutes. I’ll see you at lunch with Keshia?”
I smiled and nodded. “Yeah, sure,” I replied before watching her leave.
I sighed and prepared to leave too when I suddenly saw Xavion smiling at me while standing at the other side of the benches.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “What are you doing here?” I asked.
He tilted his head to the side while watching him walk closer to him. “Nice to meet you again, my slave,” he told me and my eyes immediately narrowed.
“Huh?” I asked, confused.
He raised his brow before licking his lower lip. “I said, nice to meet you again, my slave,” he repeated. “Because you volunteered to be my slave last Friday night.”
My jaw dropped. “What?!” I exasperated.
He smirked. “Wow…alcohol and amnesia. Classic,” he mumbled under his breath. “Now, let me make you remember.”
