11 Celeste’s conniving ways

1119 Words
Her plan hasn’t worked… Celeste shrieked, scaring the birds loitering in the trees above her. The Kobi forest quieted for a second in expectation of what might happen next. She balled her hands into fists and pommelled the tree trunk next to her. The stupid blood slave was supposed to be dead. Gone! But she somehow survived the poison and interrupted her time with Tavek. A time Celeste will never have again, because the minute Tavek came to his senses, and realized who she was, he shoved her off his bed not caring whether he broke her neck or not. He had looked at her with such disgust her body had turned red from humiliation. His c**k still had hard, glistening from her juices he had walked away from her. He had ignored her like she was a no body. Celeste felt a lone tear trail down her cheek. She didn’t deserve to be treated like that – used and discarded like she was nothing. He didn’t even have the decency to allow her to come. She was still horny as f**k. And she had been so close to coming after so long… Celeste clenched her jaw. “That b***h!” she hissed baring her fangs. What she wouldn’t give to suck the b***h dry. She was ruining everything. She’d had Tavek where she wanted him – he had been a slave to his desires, proving she could control him. Once he had spent his seed, and the hardthorn had taken complete hold of his body she would have staged a murder scene with the blood slave’s already dead body. It would have looked like Tavek had killed her in the throes of passion. Once everybody found out, he would be rescinded as the prince. And he would have no choice but to hand over the throne to her. All she had to do was play her part. Celeste knew no man could resist her. Even Tavek’s father had crumpled to his knees before her. The old fart just died unexpectedly before he could give her the throne. Celeste shook her head, bringing her emotions to heel. She had to focus on the prize. She stared into space fantasying about being a queen of the vampires. Soon, she told herself. Celeste smelled the human before he could appear in the clumps of trees she’s selected as their meeting place. The Kobi forest was so big that most didn’t venture into its canopied wonderland. It was the perfect place for secret meetings. “Were you followed?” she asked even though he knew the answer to that question. Of course he wasn’t followed. Keegan was the most careful human she’s ever met. So careful he has survived for many years living with vampires. And now he was helping her usurp the throne of the most powerful vampire dynasty that ever existed. Celeste felt giddy just thinking about it. She didn’t know the man’s motives or cared, as long as he was willing to give her what she desired most. “You know I wasn’t,” Keegan said as he came to stand behind her. Celeste turned to face him. He was stoic and polished with no hair out of place. He looked like the perfect statue that stared at the world, and never joining in. What thoughts lurked behind those dull brown eyes? Celeste wondered. No. She didn’t care. “The hardthorn didn’t work,” Celeste said her anger of a few minutes ago rising to suffocate her. She was supposed to be in the prince’s bed blissed out right about now. But…No… she was out her. “She didn’t die. I thought you said…” “Tsk, you know as well as I do how lethal hardthorn is to humans. The poisoned tea Anna gave her worked. We just didn’t anticipate how deep their bond is. She’s already changed. It affected her the same way it did him.” “That’s not possible. They’ve only been together a short while.” Celeste paced around the forest floor. If she was truly changed, the blood slave was going to be hard to kill. Bonded to a strong vampire like Tavek, she was a formidable opponent. She had to come up with another plan. “Let me know when you come up with a new plan. I cannot linger here.” “We have to keep them apart. Their bond will grow the more he feeds from her.” Celeste said hurriedly. “How do you suggest we do that?” Keegan asked. His face was as emotionless as ever. “I’ll think of something.” “Like I said, let me know when you think of something.” Keegan walked away disappearing into the trees. Celeste growled at him. Sometime the man could be infuriating and secretive. Maybe she was stupid to trust him. No. She needed an ally. “I was wondering why Keegan rushed away from dinner. I should have known it was because of a woman.” The voice reached Celeste’s ears too late. She turned around to face its owner, paling when she saw who it was. Marek. Celeste wondered how much he’d heard. “What?” she swallowed as her voice came out high pitched and strained. “Only a woman can make a man rush through dinner or skip it entirely,” Marek said. The boyish smile on his face was friendly and open. And there was a hint of a desire in his eyes. Celeste concluded that he hadn’t heard anything that will have a noose tied around her neck by sunrise. She relaxed, laughing at his word. “You think so?” “I know so.” He was flirting with her. “Hmmm.” “Why don’t you leave the human alone and give yourself to a real male. I am my father’s son after all,” Marek winked at her. His lips spread in a self-satisfied laugh. “Marek, Marek…you always try too hard?” she said sidling close to him. “But in case you were wondering I have a bigger fish to fry. Your brother, he is twice the man you will never be.” Marek visibly flinched. His nostrils flared, and there was hate reflected in his eyes. Interesting, Celeste noticed, very interesting.
