She told Kane that night. All of it — the trust file access, Tyler's uncertainty about intent, her decision to keep watching.
He listened. He was very still through the telling, which was not unusual, but the quality of the stillness was different from his regular thinking-stillness. This was the stillness of a man managing something significant without letting it surface until he understood it fully.
When she finished he said: "You didn't tell me immediately."
"I told you now."
"You told Tyler to keep it from me."
"Yes." She held his eyes. "Because your immediate response would have been to remove her from the building and I needed to see what she does with the trust she's been given
