I pulled out my phone to text Alex the second I’d stepped into my bedroom. Dinner with my dad had been entirely all too awkward to bare as he tried to hold back the tears in his eyes. Tonight had been hard for him, but I was so grateful he finally opened up. I’d given my dad a tight hug before coming up here, but as per usual, he turned back to his cold self and went to get ready for work. A soft thud came from my balcony making me jump in paranoia, only to be relieved when Alex stepped through the door. Damn, that was fast. “I never left, I waited,” he said, as if he already knew what I was thinking. He quickly closed the distance between us, his arms wrapping around me and I collapsed into him.
