I looked at Cathy as her face sank. I contemplated telling the truth but it's obviously not a wise move and though she loves me, I know how it ends up. She becomes terrified of me and avoids me all her life or In the worst cases, she could actually spread the news about me to everyone.
I couldn't let her go without giving her an explanation, she already has a seed of doubt planted in her and if I don't uproot it, it could grow bigger and become worse.
I could cook up something to avoid the question for now but I need to calm her down. She's obviously scared of what I want to say.
“ It's not that….. complicated.” I said slowly.
“ Just say it then if it isn't that…complicated.” She said sarcastically.
