"This is the ring I gave your mom when I asked her to marry me. I want you to have it. Maybe you can give it to Katie someday," dad says, handing me my mom's engagement ring.
I study it for a while, taking in everything about it from the delicate gold band, to the bright, shiny princess cut diamond. I always thought I'd buy my own engagement ring for Katie, but this is even better. Katie was part of Cody's life too. It would make sense that he'd want to keep it in the family.
