New Threats

1445 Words

Four months into Aria's pregnancy, and life in Nightshade had never been more peaceful. Her belly had grown noticeably, and the entire pack had become protective of their pregnant Luna. Dante barely let her out of his sight, much to Aria's amused frustration. "I'm pregnant, not fragile," she said for the hundredth time as Dante insisted on carrying her medical supplies to the healing house. "You're carrying my pup," Dante countered with a grin. "That makes you precious cargo." Aria was organizing inventory when Lyra burst in, her expression urgent. "Luna, we have visitors at the border. A group of refugees from the east. They're asking for sanctuary." "How many?" Aria asked, immediately shifting into Luna mode. "Fifteen. Mostly women and children. They look exhausted and terrified."
