28. Going back

1003 Words
I heard the door open. I was worried it was the guards that found me here. I was not sure if I should put up the fight or just go back to the cell in the mansion. Then I heard Arthur: "Sabrina, where are you?" I closed the book carefully and ran downstairs. Arthur wanted to embrace me, and I almost landed in his arms, but I thought about Jakob and stepped away instead. Arthur told me he returned early because Mr. Jules was on a business trip. That made sense to me, since Mr. Jules was at my parents' house. I guess that was his business. So I wrote on paper as quickly as possible about what happened with the phone call. "I must go back!" I wrote three times. Arthur was against it. I was even worried he would keep me here against my will. His blue eyes looked darker than usual. His beautiful face was concerned. I explained to him, which was so painful on paper, that I had to leave. I repeatedly wrote that keeping me in his fantastic house would be a prison for me. I will try to escape and turn myself in. I would do anything to save the people I loved. He eventually agreed to take me back. However, I could never fully trust him. I felt that there was something that he was not sharing with me. He tied my hands behind my back so that no one would suspect anything if we were stopped before we got to our destination. With his every touch, I had tinges running through me. It was hard to be so close without embracing him. But I felt guilty about Jakob. At least I was going back to save my parents and Jakob. I didn't know what would happen to me. So I had to keep those thoughts away. We prepared the story to tell Mr. Jules that Arthur had captured me at the beach today, and when he stopped by at his house to get a change of clothes, I was able to run off and make a phone call to my parents. I was hoping Mr. Jules would believe me. I didn't want Arthur to get in trouble. However, Arthur was not concerned. "I am a vampire. Albert trusts me. I worked for years in his mansion. He would not do anything to jeopardize our relationship with him." I was worried that Arthur was lying about bringing me back and would take me somewhere else, but it looked like he was keeping his word so far. We were getting closer to the mansion. While we were driving through the familiar landscapes of Agora, I let my mind wander about what Mr. Jules would do for me. I was unsure if I was more afraid of Seth or Mr. Jules. Finally, I had to stop thinking about it. I had no choice but to go back. Then I heard Jakob. "Sabrina, I know you are getting closer and trying to save me. But, please do not come back here. You will not be able to help anyone and will lose your life in vain," he begged. "I love you so much. I am glad you are alive," I responded. "Please don't make me struggle more, do not come back here," he repeated. I didn't reply because I didn't want to cause him any more pain, but I was set on coming back. I hoped he would be released, even though I didn't know for sure. Hearing him made me more confident in my decision even though I was scared to death. When our car got to the mansion gates, the guards immediately phoned someone and let us through. Arthur pulled the car right in the front door. Three more guards rushed to the car. Arthur got out of the car. "I captured her. Let Mr. Jules knows we are here," he told the guards. "Nice job! We already told him," one of them replied. "Follow me," he said with an evil smirk. The other grabbed me by the shoulders and took me back into the mansion. Arthur was following us. The guard pulled me through the front door and then down the stairs back to the basement. I didn't know that my heart could sink any lower. I knew exactly what I signed up for. When they opened the door, I saw Jakob all beaten up and lying on the cell floor. He was at his side facing us. His left eye, lips, and nose were all puffed and purple. They must not have used the collar but were punching him to get any answers about me. "You should never have come back here," I heard Jakob through our mind link. Tears started rolling down my face, watching him hurt in the cage. The guard shoved me into a separate cell and locked me in. I saw Arthur's face twitch, but he composed himself as we agreed he would not try to put up a fight. Then the guard approached Arthur. "Can I see your hands please?" he asked. "Why?" asked Arthur, but showed the guards his palms. At the same time, another guard was grabbing Arthur from the back by his neck. Arthur quickly punched the guard in the back with his elbow. The guard screamed and fell, losing his balance. But, the guard in front of him jumped back and pressed something on his wrist. Arthur started to scream and dropped to the floor, convulsing in pain. I saw the collar shining on his neck. The guard who grabbed Arthur from the back must have quickly put it on him. Both guards dragged Arthur into the third cell. "I always wanted to see if this worked on our kind. Finally, I had my chance!" one of the guards told Arthur and spit on him. They locked Arthur while he was still shaking in agonizing pain. They only stopped the torture after they locked his cell.
