In a desolate building on the outskirts of the Raven Pack, a group of wolves stood silent, droplets of sweat dripping down their foreheads as they looked down. No one dared to breathe loudly and the sound of howling wind echoed in the air. In front of them stood a man perfectly dressed in his black suit. The man looked much younger than the group of wolves, yet one glare from him was enough to make those wolves shudder in fear.
With slow steps, he walked towards the group and stood a mere inch away from them. Releasing his aura, he took a deep breath and looked at the group who were cowering in fear.
“I’m asking this for the first and last time. On whose order, you filthy rogues tried to infiltrate my pack?”
His deep voice resonated with the howling wind and echoed throughout the empty building.
One of the wolves fell down on the ground, sitting on his knees, and started begging for mercy. Everyone knew how ruthless Archer Raven was, despite that they tried to infiltrate his pack, the Raven pack, because of their greed. They thought no one would notice them, let alone suspect if they blended in easily, but who knew Archer Raven had them in his palm the moment they stepped inside his land. Now caught, they had no choice but to reveal the name of their boss or suffer from a punishment that could be said worse than death.
Archer looked at the four wolves in front of him, all in their thirties and strong. Pondering for a moment, he looked back at his people who were standing far behind him.
“Let’s do this. Send all of them to the mine.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, the four wolves were visibly confused. They thought they would be punished severely, but instead of that, they were being sent to the mine. However, with no chance to protest or retaliate, they were carried by the pack members and thrown off to the truck. The truck drove at high speed and Archer breathed a sigh of relief.
“Don’t you think the mine is a bit much for them? I mean they did not even get the chance to collect any vital information.”
Archer looked at Joshua, his friend and the current beta of the pack.
“Then what do you think I should have done?”
“Well, it would have been better to kill them all in cold blood.”
Archer scoffed at his friend’s remark. After all, why kill a traitor when you could work them to death? Unlike other Alphas who believed in punishing traitors and rogues, Archer liked to use them as his personal laborers. That paid him off big time as he cut down on salaries and over the years became one of the wealthiest alphas in the country. Under his leadership, the Raven Pack too became one of the wealthiest packs.
“Let’s go. I’m hungry.”
With that, both of them got inside the luxurious car and drove forward to Archer’s favorite diner.
Parking in front of the diner, Archer looked at the beautiful signboard which had a lady’s picture on it. The lady smiling brightly was holding a plate of sandwiches along with orange juice. The name Rose’s Diner along with the picture brought back many memories from his past and Archer felt his heart slowly becoming heavy.
Just then, Joshua came back with two parcels in his hand and handed one to him. Inhaling the familiar fragrance, Archer dug in and Joshua gave him a puzzled look.
“You know they don’t hate you for what happened to her. They want you to step inside the diner and meet them.”
Joshua knew, despite his attempts, Archer would never go inside the diner. After all, he had been coming to this place every day for the past two years only to wait outside and leave after finishing his meal. He knew Archer continued to blame himself though it was not his fault at all.
Chewing the last bite of the sandwich, Archer looked at Joshua.
“I can’t face them knowing I am the one responsible for their daughter’s death. After all, it was my duty to protect her, my mate, my Rose.”
Archer’s voice got weaker while uttering Rose’s name and Joshua nodded his head. He drove away in full speed to the Raven Corporation.
After finishing the last meeting of the day, Archer was about to leave his cabin when he got interrupted by his friend.
“Don’t think I didn’t notice what you were trying to pull off all this time. It’s an important event, Archer, we have to attend it on behalf of our company and also given the fact that they are, in a way, family friends.”
Joshua’s suggestion only earned him a loud scoff from Archer. After all, which Alpha in his right mind would go to attain another Alpha’s wedding celebration after losing his mate? So Archer was keen on not attending the ceremony and before his friend could convince him, he bolted from there. However, by his bad luck, on his way he met the devil, reincarnate himself, aka his older sister, Emma Raven.
“Hey sis…”
Before he could finish, a loud jab to his stomach and he immediately shut off. He saw his younger brother James peeking out from behind and cursed him in his mind.
“You’re dead the moment we reach home, James.”
However, Emma saw right through his thoughts and glared at him.
“Uh.. No excuse at all. Brandon is already at the parking lot with your suit. The twins are desperately waiting for their favorite uncle and I have already informed everyone in the Greyhound pack that you are going to be there for the celebration. So nothing will say now is going to work.”
Defeated by one blow, Archer had no choice but to submit to his fate. Sometimes he wondered why his sister got a mate and moved to a pack which was only two miles away from their pack. Why couldn’t she move to another country or better another continent? However, it was not like he could say these things to her in her face. His sulking face brightened up after seeing Chloe and Zoe, four-year-old twin angels who came out from Emma and remained the biggest mystery in his life. Nonetheless, after everyone hopped in, Brandon drove the vehicle at full speed.
By the time they all arrived at the Greyhound park, the celebration was at its peak. Everyone made way for Archer and his family. While many tried to approach Archer with different intentions, Archer remained his usual cold and aloof self. Being at the party for an hour, he felt absolutely bored and needed an escape. Picking out a whole bottle with him, he vanished from the party and roamed around walking far and far away from all the noise. He did not realize that he had walked off to a remote place within the pack. While most of the houses were decorated and glowing bright with lights, this particular house was vintage and cold.
Attracted by its charm, he took a few steps forward in the direction of the house and suddenly something very sweet invaded his nostrils. The more he walked closer to the house, the intoxicated scent got thicker and thicker and his started pounding inside his chest. It was a feeling he was familiar with. After all, that was how he first met his mate, his Rose. But why now? He was sure Rose was certainly not alive in this world anymore.
With visible confusion on his face and his heart pounding with excitement, he started running towards the door and knocked on the door as hard as he could.
*************
“I, Liam Grey, reject you, Natalia Stone, as my mate and the future Luna of my pack.”
Natalia looked at the array of fireworks in the sky as she remembered those cruel sentences. It had already been two years since she had turned eighteen and found herself mated to Liam, the future alpha of the pack. But it did not even take a second for Liam to reject her brutally in front of all the pack members.
With a loud scoff she turned around and closed the door, preventing the noise from coming inside her little sanctuary. Even though it had been two years, the wounds were still fresh, and she was not ready to join the celebrations of Liam finding his second chance mate.
With another cruel laugh, she stared at herself through the mirror and deeply assessed herself. The public rejection had already made her a laughingstock in the pack and, to make the matter worse, fate played a cruel joke on her. The so-called she-wolf, mate of Alpha Liam and the future Luna of the pack turned out to be none other than her prodigal younger sister Ramona, who turned eighteen last week.
“Hahhh”, laughing sarcastically, she looked away from the mirror and walked straight to her bed. Everyone in the pack except her was celebrating the union of the future Alpha and Luna, but she was neither invited nor welcomed there. While everyone was having a feast, drinking and eating to their hearts’ content, she only had a simple meal for herself which she cooked using basic ingredients. Since she was not needed at the party, Natalia decided to sleep early rather than to wait and torture herself with agony and pain. With a clear smile on her face, she laid down on the bed and covered herself with several thin and worn-off blankets, unaware of the upcoming storm which would soon barge into her life.
