Sophia's expression flickered between anger and malice.
In the end, she curled her lips into a nasty sneer.
"Elizabeth, did you forget? Your mom cheated, went nuts, and was locked up in a mental hospital. That's why you got kicked out of the Kaiser family, not because—ah!"
Her head snapped to the side before she even saw Elizabeth move. Stars burst in her vision as her ear rang, and a bright red handprint bloomed on her cheek.
The burning sting on her face made her freeze in place. Dumbstruck, then furious, her whole body started trembling.
