“I give up!” I yelled in frustration rather than anger. “I’m never going to get this, Dorian. Why do you keep insisting when you know it’s as hopeless as I do?” Dorian chuckled as he wrapped his arms around my waist, lightly feathering my neck with kisses. “It’s not hopeless. You just have to put a little more effort into it. You know that we have to complete this if you want to go after Erik. I can’t have a repeat of last time.” After sighing for the tenth time today, I looked up and faced the dummy that Dorian had made for me, telling me to imagine Erik’s face. It helped but it wasn’t the real thing. It wasn’t mustering up those same emotions that I had when that soldier let me into the forest.
