When I finally reached Beau’s pack, the warrior driving pulled up at the base of the packhouse steps and got out to open my door. I stepped out of the car and immediately felt the difference in the air. It was subtle, but it was there. The land here felt calmer. Quieter. Not empty or weak, just steady, like the ground wasn’t braced for violence the way the base always was. My shoulders dropped without me meaning them to.
