Commander Edwards mind-linked me while I was still sitting on the edge of my dorm bed, shoes half on, nerves buzzing like static under my skin. He didn’t waste time. He told me Alpha James had been denied entry to the compound. Flat refusal. No negotiations. No courtesy delay. James claimed he only wanted to see his son, but Edwards hadn’t budged.
