As soon as I returned to my room and closed the door, I stoked the fireplace to ensure it wouldn’t go out. I stood there, staring at the flames for a minute before the voices in my head erupted again.
“Can we go out tonight? Please?” Meadow pleaded.

“Yes, let’s do it!” she said excitedly.
