Chapter 11 I couldn't watch him look at her anymore. The sheer, naked agony on Mason’s face as the silver car melted into the city traffic was too intimate, too raw, and too heavy a burden for a ghost like me to witness. Slowly, carefully, I backed away into the deepest shadows of the pillars, turning my back on his silent grief. I hurried down the dark pavement toward the bus stop, my heart hammering a frantic, guilty rhythm against my ribs.
