Aurora's POV
I had promised Roland I wouldn't go down there, but here I was, taking my flashlight to the basement. I couldn't sleep as I lay tossing and turning on the mattress, burying my head under the pillows to drown out the sounds filtering up from the basement. At first, the growls were angry and terrifying, the sound of a beast, but the tone shifted to whiny and ragged that made my chest ache in a way I couldn't explain.
