(Sean's POV) Jack. The thought surfaces on its own, the way most of my good ideas do lately — not planned, just there, insistent. If there's one thread left that Rebecca hasn't cut, it's him. She answered his call. She's baking cookies with him this weekend. Whatever's broken between us, it isn't broken between her and Jack. Maybe that's the door. Maybe if Jack spends enough time with her — enough ordinary, unhurried, cookie-baking time — she might soften towards me. She grew up without parents after all. No one knows better than her what its like to grow up in a broken home. She wouldn't want that for Jack. She couldn't. I hold onto that thought. It's the only hope I have.
