“One more push, Alpha”, Doctor Sara says. River has been pushing for thirty five minutes and I can tell she’s exhausted.
“You can do it baby. One more big push”, Koslov tells River, and she looks at me.
“You can do it beautiful”, I tell her as she squeezes my hand again and pushes as hard as she can. She pushes so hard that her canines elongate and her claws dig into my hand and Koslov’s with a loud roar, but we don't flinch or wince in pain. We focus on River and River only. A few seconds later, the wailing of a baby is heard. River’s claws and canines retract as she leans back.
“You did it baby. I’m so proud of you”, Koslov kisses her forehead then looks at me and nods. Doctor Sara places our baby boy in River’s hands.
