✴ Damien ✴ “And…is it true? Did you buy a house here?” she asked, and I hesitated. There was so much I wanted to say to her, but I didn’t want to do it over the phone. “I bought a place just up the road from my father’s house,” I finally admitted. Scarlett didn’t respond immediately, but when she did, it felt strange and distant. “That is a big step. Congratulations,” “Thank you,” I said and because I hated this and wanted her to see her, I decided to invite her over. “I’m there now. Why don’t you come by? I would love to show you the place,” there was another long pause, and I wondered if it was too soon. “Sure…when?” “How about now? If you aren’t busy,” I said as I looked around the empty office. “I mean, if you don’t have any dinner plans, I could order some pizza or something,”
