The living room was alive with the warm glow of fairy lights which reflected off the champagne glasses. Hosting Josh and Emily’s engagement party at Damien’s house felt like the perfect way to bring everyone together. And I couldn’t have been happier to organize it. As much as tonight was about celebrating my best friend and her fiancé, it was also a moment of gratitude for my own life and the love that had brought me back home to Damien. I stood near the kitchen as I arranged the last tray of hors d’oeuvres while Damien leaned against the counter. He watched me with a small smile and his presence was a steady comfort. It felt surreal when I caught him watching me like I was the only thing in the room that mattered. It made my heart skip every time.
