As Blake made us food in the kitchen I decided to go through Brooke’s things to try and figure out what I was supposed to do. Her phone was locked, and I couldn’t guess the code to open it so I gave up on that. There was no emergency plan stashed away in her wallet, and when I went to put the things in her room I felt like I was invading her privacy. This was the one place in the world that Brooke could be Lisa, or whatever her actual name really was if she wanted to be. There were little cacti in colorful plant pots on the windowsill, and a shelf full of novels about true love finding a way despite all the odds.
