As Riley left the room, I crawled slowly and stealthily towards the kitchen, aiming to make my getaway. But just as I reached the threshold, Hayden and Hunter suddenly entered, forcing me to freeze in my tracks and duck under the dining table.
Holding my breath, I watched as the twins engaged in conversation with Riley, their voices muffled and low. My heart pounded in my chest, every minute feeling like an eternity. I could only hope that they wouldn't discover me and ruin my chance to escape.
With my parents out of sight, I seized the chance to make my escape. Racing through the kitchen, I approached the back door with as much stealth as I could muster. Carefully, I turned the knob, praying that the hinges wouldn't give me away.
