Allie’s POV. “Father,” I heard Hunter’s voice as yelled, his voice echoing in the woods, his feet echoing on the floor like a distant drumbeat. My cheeks stung from the Alpha’s slap, the sharpness of the pain still reverberating through my skin. I rubbed them hard, willing the tears to stay at bay. “No,” I said through clenched teeth, determined not to appear weak before the Alpha. My eyes glistened, the burn of humiliation threatening to swallow me whole. The Alpha eyes was burning with resentment, I looked away still rubbing my cheeks, blinking the tears away. Hayden’s voice was a fierce protector, his concern a salve to my wounded pride. “Why did you slap her, Father?” he demanded, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Hunter. Hunter added his own retort, his eyes flashing with anger.
