Ace sat at the edge of my bed like he was afraid to get too close. Like I might shatter if he moved wrong.
I pulled my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms around them as I watched him. The lamplight caught the sharp angles of his face, throwing shadows that made him look dangerous. Beautiful. Mine.
The thought hit me like a physical blow.
"Thank you," I said quietly, my voice rougher than I intended. "For today. For meeting Lena."
He turned to look at me, and those green eyes weren't soft anymore. They were dark. Hungry. Like he was holding himself back from something that would consume us both.
"How do you feel about seeing her again?"
"Confused. Happy. Guilty." I rested my chin on my knees, trying to ignore the way his gaze dropped to my lips. "All at once."
