Two days.
Two days of replaying that moment over and over in my head. Two days of watching Ace pretend everything was fine when I knew he'd given up his entire future for me.
Two days of drowning in guilt.
I stared at the ceiling of my room, my body heavy against the mattress like I was made of lead. Whenever I closed my eyes, I saw a ring glinting in the porch light before he gave it away.
For me.
A nobody. A broken human with more baggage than an airport carousel.
The tears came again, hot and relentless. I'd cried more in the past few days than I had in years. My eyes were probably permanently red and swollen by now.
What kind of person lets someone sacrifice their destiny? What kind of selfish, awful person accepts that kind of sacrifice?
