Shaking my head, I confessed, "No. It... he's hated me since I was little." My friend's eyes opened wide in shock. "What? Seriously? How? I mean--what? How little?" Shrugging, I took another drink and then said, "Since I was like... twelve?" "Oh f**k dude," she said. Then she took a long pull on her drink, draining half of it in one suck. She swallowed and then wiped the back of her hand across her mouth. Staring at me, she started shaking her head slowly. "I'm so sorry," she said softly. Tears started rimming my eyes and I blinked several times to make them go away. Taking another drink, I said, "It's ok. I'm used to it." Katie whistled softly and then leaned over the table, closer to me. When I looked at her, she was smiling. "You know what I always do when s**t like that happens?"
