On Phaeton, Raven grew up with her parents outside of a pack. It wasn’t the norm for wolves to live without a pack. But it also wasn’t unheard of, and so long as those without a pack didn’t bother the packs, they were left in peace. A wolf could become packless for many reasons. For Raven and her parents, it came down to simply being members of a small pack that didn’t make it through the war. Instead of seeking a new pack, her parents chose to stay in their family home and live independently. During the day, her father would either hunt in the nearby woods or travel to the nearest human colony, where he would trade items Raven and her mother would make from the animal pelts.
