Next day I’m playing a game when the ferry toots its horn. We all go down to the dock, except for Mary Beth and Riley Rose. It takes us two trips down to the dock and back up the slope to the house to haul up all the boxes. Stephen’s going through the mail that’s been forwarded, separating it into three piles, one for each family, while the rest of us put away the food and supplies. “Hey, it came,” he says and grabs something out of one of the piles. “What’s that?” asks Mary Beth with her head stuck in the fridge, arranging the food on the shelves. “Just a brochure I ordered.” Mary Beth pops her head back out, “A brochure for what?” Stephen takes the brochure of whatever it is back to the couch where he flops down, feet up so that he takes up the whole space. “Well, I’ve been thinki
