18- "Pretty snub."

1069 Words
I LOOKED at my sister. She was not looking at me. Her brother is capable of taking care of himself, as she herself has observed. I should have realized that right away. I didn't say anything until we were finally on our way to my new school. "I was wondering what school you graduated from. Why are we only seeing you now? Why only this year did you enroll? Why have you only appeared in my life today?" These boys who were circling around me and interviewing me were my classmates on my HUMSS course, especially the last one who joked on me. Though I was feeling increasingly awkward and had no idea which of them to address first, I managed a hearty smile anyhow. I whirled around to look out the window and noticed that a few of the boys in the other classes (STEM and ABM) were eager to hop on the bandwagon as well. When I peeked through the open door, I noticed more fresh faces smiling at me, albeit I didn't know any of them. "Miss, are you a transferee here? Can I introduce myself to you?" "Yes, miss. Let us introduce ourselves to you." "From Grade 11 STEM. I am Jon!" "Miss pretty girl! This is Hernz! Grade 12, ABM!" There were so many unfamiliar people standing and talking to me that I thought my head was going to explode. What were these, exactly? Is that how they truly deal with transferees? They act as if they've seen a famous celebrity while in fact I am not a famous celebrity at all. Our instructor arrived for the first period, and with her arrival, the scene and my agony ceased. At last, everyone in my class returned to their seats, and the rest of them to their respective classrooms. "Irryn, let's take our recess now." I've got invited by my classmates in a friendly manner. I smiled and nodded at them . "Yeah, let's go." I was expecting to go with them to the cafeteria to buy food and then return to our classroom, but instead they took me to a special spot where they could have fun without anybody else. They speak and joke around. Although I'd rather have my lunch in class, I went with them anyhow to foster group cohesion. One of the people I'm with right now made the comment, "I heard there are new plenty of attractive college freshman guys especially in Engineering Department!" "Really? How about the fourth year Ethan?" "He's also handsome!" "Yieee!" I felt strangely out of place. I didn't know who they were talking about, and I had no interest in finding out, but I also couldn't relate to their issue. And that's a normal teen-age thing, right? "Let's go now to the College of Engineering. Really right now!" "Game!" "Let's go." Since we had another class right after our hour off, I had no intention of joining them. "So, what are you waiting for? Come on, we need to get going. You must come with us!" I gave a hesitating shake of my head and a forced smile. "No, I won't be able to go with you to the college department." "What? You stop being killjoy, okay!" "But we still have classes after this vacant," I insisted. "And we still have almost 40 minutes left to go. Besides, we're going to be back before our next class." I was still not convinced. I really didn't wanna go with them. "We won't entertain your rejection. You must go with us. Who knows maybe we can find boyfriends there! Let's go now!" Couldn't do anything when they started to drag me to come with them. Boyfriend? Count me out of that! They say they'll be back before the next class, so maybe it's not such a bad idea to tag along? The campus was so big that I had no idea where we were going. As far as I could tell, my classmates had entered the Engineering building. Apparently it was because we were dressed in uniform, whenever we went up a floor, everyone looked our way. It simply gave us a senior high school vibe. Most of the lads were amused and even smiled and greeted us, although several of the girls raised their eyebrows, perhaps wondering what senior high students do here in their building. I couldn't blame these girls afterall because from the first place, senior high schoolers shouldn't be roaming around college buildings at these hours. "Hi, cute! May we know you?" a college guy blocked my way. "You're really cute! You're a senior high schooler, right?" said the other one. They blocked my way, started asking me silly questions, and insisted that I introduce myself to them, but I couldn't hear a word they were saying because I was trying to find my classmates, who didn't seem to care that anything had happened to me and were already leaving. "Wait! Please wait for me—" I tried to call them but they couldn't seem to hear my voice. These annoying bugs were really blocking my way! "I'm Carter. Third year, taking up Civil Engineering course." "Sorry but I need to go now," I just said and then made a way to pass over them, and thankfully I succeeded. "She's lovely, but she's a real snub!" It didn't matter to me what they were saying, because I had to get to my classmates as soon as possible. Where have they been all this time? I couldn't seem to find them! I felt like I had been abandoned and forgotten! I ascended to the next phase. Not many people seem to be on this floor, and I haven't seen any of my classmates. I went down one set of stairs and up another, but I still couldn't find them. Where are you, girls? Oh please. Don't play hide and seek anymore because I'm scared I'll get lost here because I'm new to this school and yet unfamiliar with every part of this university! "Irryn?" A voice called out my name, and I turned to face the man who had spoken to me. He gave me a friendly smile. His face seemed to be familiar. When have I met him before? I'm sure I've seen him before, I just can't remember where. "Irryn, it's really you!" He was cheerful, and he cut our distance.
