Dragon Bound

Chapter 50

“Whoa! What the heck! Oh my goodness me!” Sarah exclaimed as she entered into Dai’s lodge where they were taking care of her, her husband, Charlie heard the exclamation and rushed over as well, when e saw what she saw, his own exclamation was the silent type where his mouth hung open and he was rendered shocked speechless.

Dai jumped down from the ceiling where she had been using an iron rod to do pull ups, she was clothed in a fitting armless tank too and joggers pants, her landing from the ceiling was graceful and didn’t even make a sound, she was like a cat, but not one of those small cats, like a jaguar, as she glistened with sweat and her perfect, slightly built, sleek body frame was in view.

Sarah swallowed as the predator came closer to them, Charlie was shaking visibly, they were suddenly both scared of the woman she-dragon they had brought into their house by themselves, she was supposed to be constricted to the wheel chair, all her bones were weak and vitals showed signs of physical body weakness, that was the day before, but now the person that stood in front of them looked like a martial artist street fighter that was in her very best shape.

“I hope you guys like venison” she said as she walked past them both, when she wasn’t in their view they saw that she had strung up a dead dear on some of the bunk bed poles, they hadn’t noticed it before because they had been so focused on her, finally they breathed a sigh of relief, there wasn’t any danger, yet.

A few moments later, they were all outside and Charlie was at the grill making venison steak while Sarah prepared some lemonade, there was a dinning table set made out of benches out there and that was where Dai sat, she was staring at the couple as they worked and where happy together, she didn’t know why she never envied couples, she wasn’t the lovey-dovey type, but she envied what they represented and that was a family, hers was in disarray right about now.

The food got ready and they all sat at the bench dinning, they all dug in immediately, the aroma had been assailing their noses all the while Charlie prepared the meal, while eating the ladies discovered that the steak was just as good in taste as the aroma, and it wasn’t until after a while that they had been eating that anyone could talk about anything because they savored the taste of the meal.

“So a deer uhn, however did you manage to catch it, do you hunt?” Sarah asked Dai, she was curious to know a lot of things amongst which was how she managed to get a deer, it wouldn’t be easy in any form, human or dragon seeing as the forest vegetation that was closest to where they were was filled with really tall trees, so in dragon form she would have had to fly above the trees which would make catching anything that was down amongst the trees difficult.

“Well yeah, I fashioned a couple of spears out of the logs in those woods and that was how I hunted it down, for some reason though, I can’t access my dragon, none of the dragon abilities I use in human form works either and I can’t shift, no matter how hard I try, it’s like I’ve become human” Dai answered with a bit of a sad tone to her.

Charlie wondered how she could say that, she was in no way human, she had just hunted a deer with nothing but sticks, yet she claims she is ordinary, he reckoned she is still just as dangerous as she would be if her dragon was accessible, he still couldn’t get over the fact that she had healed so fast, what would take years for a human had taken her months as regards the coma, and the recovery after had taken her mere days which would have taken a human months, in his mind he repeated ‘You are not human in any way’

“How does that happen or why?” Sarah asked, Charlie in his mind commended her for being able to keep up the questions and conversations with Dai, he as a person was too intimidated to ask her anything or tell her anything even to hold a conversation with her, he is scared to death of her, it had been all well and good when she was bed ridden and was on crutches she was less dangerous then, or was she?

“I don’t know, really, I think it might be mental though, well it has to be mental, cos I’m pretty sire I’m all healed physically, so basically whatever is deterring me from my dragon has to be a kind if mental blockage” Dai said, her words came out sadder than she meant to though, she was sad because she knew she might not be able to make the journey to where her remaining children were, she was even more sad because now both she and her brother had lost their own biological child to the WIC, she lost Adrian and her brother Dante lost his daughter Ryoka to their evil clutches.

Dai heaved a sigh and headed inside after thanking the couple for the meal, they detected the sadness in her voice and felt sorry for her, after she had gone inside the couple looked at each other and came to a silent agreement, they weren’t done helping her.

“Hey Dai, can we do a little show and tell for you? Come with us” Sarah said poking her head into the lodge where Dai was, Dai just shrugged and followed them, they took her into a room amongst the many rooms in the hospital/home of the couple and when Charlie flipped on the switch, Dai’s eyes widened at what she saw.

There was a piece of technology in the center of the room, and a type of a revolving and adjustable surgery bed was right below the technological equipment such that whoever laid on the bed would have the equipment over their head, the tech also actually resembled a kind of helmet linked to another complex tech, “What is this?” Dai asked.

“While I am a doctor” Charlie stated “My actual aspect is neuro, so I am a neurologist, I have worked on what you see before you for more than half of my life, and I have only used it once before” he said to Dai in explanation.

“On me” Sarah put in after Charlie stopped talking, “I was involved in a brutal accident that affected no where else but my brain, I became mentally retarded and every doctor and neurologist said I couldn’t be cured, and that was when Charlie dusted this his project and finished it to be used on me as a last resort, it was dangerous and very risky, well it is, but it worked and it might very well be less risky and dangerous for you, or even more risky and dangerous for you, it is your choice if you’d try it out or not” Sarah finished.

Dai took one more look at the machine then at the couple, then she started walking towards it, she would do anything that would make her whole again so she could go be with her family, what’s left of it, they strapped her in the bed and placed the helmet above her head, then said a bit of prayers and switched on the machine, it roared to live and whirred for a very long while with a loud pitch and a swirling sound, Dai scurried and shook about underneath like as if she was having a seizure, then the whole thing stopped and the power to the whole building went off.
