Caleb always has a sense of duty, like a true soldier, actually he is the definition of a true soldier with all the morals and empathy that comes with it, he is like the Steve Rogers Captain America, a devout to law, order, humanity and basically what is right. Sometimes these values clash and at the end it is the last one that settles and prevails for him, just do what is right and for Caleb, what is right at this point is to give these guys a chance to save themselves, to give them a chance to just surrender and not put up any unnecessary fights that would lead to unnecessary waste of lives.
