The moment the banking notification appears on my screen, my knees nearly buckle. I stand frozen just outside Thornton Tower, the words burning into my eyes. Account frozen due to legal hold. My breath stutters. My chest tightens so sharply I have to swallow twice before I can even move. Panic spreads through my body in hot waves. No. It has to be a mistake. He could not have done it that quickly. He could not have filed something in the minutes since I stepped into that elevator.
