I do not sleep. Not really. My body lies still, but my thoughts keep circling the same point like a bird trapped inside a glass room. Damian’s voice echoes through every hour. His confession. His honesty. His vow. The look in his eyes when he said he would uncover everything Adrian hid about me. By dawn I give up any hope of rest. My head throbs, my eyes burn, but I move through my small apartment with automatic motions. Shower. Clothes. Shoes. Bag. I forget breakfast. I forget the tea I meant to make. Everything feels suspended, as if the world holds its breath. The elevator ride to the upper floors of Thornton Tower feels longer than usual. My heart punches the inside of my ribs in a messy rhythm. When the doors open, the office space is bathed in pale morning light. Employees murmur
