(Sanya's POV) The hallway is empty except for one person. Jake stands near the stairs, like he's been waiting. Our eyes meet. In his eyes, I see grief. Anguish. Guilt. The same emotions I saw in his eyes when I screamed at him on the doorstep. But as the light from the sun passes through the window and hits him... I see something impossible. He’s transparent. Just for a second. I see through him. See the wall behind him through his body. I blink, and shake my head. When I look again, he’s solid. I must be seeing things. Exhaustion. Stress.
