I was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of whimpering. I could feel Alexandria's fear and anxiety coursing through our mate bond, so I knew right away it was my mate whimpering.
I didn't want to startle her by being loud, so I whispered, "Darling, it's okay. You're safe here with me."
However, that didn't make any difference. She started whimpering louder, as she curled into a ball, and I wasn't sure if I should even try to wake her. When I attempted to rub her back, she nearly jumped out of her skin, then she started sobbing. All while still being asleep.
