Vanessa Despite the warm welcome, I lay awake in my old bedroom. It had been a surprise to see that my parents had kept my room the same. Aside from keeping it clean, nothing had been changed. I stared up at the ceiling because, for whatever reason, I just couldn't seem to fall asleep. I tossed and turned; the soft rustling of the sheets was a futile attempt to find comfort. It felt like everything was just too much for me and my mind just wouldn’t switch off. Finally, I gave up on trying to sleep and decided to do what I always did. Warm up some milk and hope it was enough to lull me to sleep. I slipped out of bed and padded softly down the hallway. The floorboards creaked gently under my feet and even though the house was quiet, the distant hum of the fridge purred throughout the house.
